Carers
Breakthrough aims to support carers of those experiencing mental
health problems.
Breakthrough
offers a range of support including a one-to-one listening service,
a befriending service, a range of practical support and advocacy.
We aim to advise on other services that might be helpful and we
aim to a provide flexible service that recognises that people have
differing needs. We work with carers to help them become self-sufficient
and regain control of their lives so they can play a fuller and
more integrated role in the communities they live in. The service
is aimed at carers of people with mental health needs or those experiencing
emotional distress.
At
least one third of all families today are affected by mental illness.
This has a dramatic knock-on effect on our society. By providing
support and help for carers, we aim to reduce isolation, worry and
stress and help Southend to be a stronger and happier community.
Funding
and help are particularly poor for this section of the community
across the country. Because of feelings of shame and stigma, these
families are some of the last to seek help or raise the issue of
lack of services.
By
working with families to build community networks, to raise the
profile of need and by being able to offer other services through
Trust Links we are actively challenging these problems in a holistic
way.
We are always looking for volunteers to work with
carers. Please contact us if you would like to help.
