We recently opened up Growing Together Shoeburyness, our community garden on Elm Road, to local families for our Summer Fayre that was a fantastic day for all.
With the sun shining, Growing Together Shoeburyness was full of summer fun as local families enjoyed an afternoon of music and activities. Community Champions from Asda in Shoeburyness volunteered on the smoothie station encouraging young guests to enjoy the specialised smoothie bike (that makes you cycle to activate the blender) which was a huge hit with the youngsters! Plus, we were very grateful to the Co-op Great Wakering who donated refreshments, and the Lions Club of Southend who made candyfloss, teas and coffees for all to enjoy.
With the summer sounds of The Ray Miso Trio greeting guests, the area that was once just wasteland was transformed into a vibrant community space, and we were thrilled to have been joined by so many. Trust Links acquired the land in 2013 and our team have been working tirelessly to develop the space, and seven years later it is a beautiful tranquil environment for all to enjoy.
Trust Links Chief Executive, Matt King said "as with all of our Growing Together projects, Growing Together Shoeburyness is a safe haven for local people with mental health problems and learning disabilities, but it is also enjoyed by local children too. Friars Primary School visit Growing Together Shoeburyness every week for outdoor learning, and our Dig It Youth group and Summer Programme for young families takes place here each summer as well, so it was wonderful to see so many families all come together and join us for a really amazing afternoon full of community spirit.”
He continued "we cannot thank our volunteers, staff, and members enough for their continued hard work. Not only did we host yet another successful community event, but our garden is looking stunning and producing some delicious home-grown produce too. Plus we also raised almost £400 which is fantastic as this money will all help towards future developments. We are particularly grateful for the support of the Southend Lions once again, and local supermarkets, Shoeburyness Asda and Coop Great Wakering, plus of course our guest musicians.”
Trust Links Summer Programme for young families starts at Growing Together Shoeburyness on Monday 29th July and takes place each Monday throughout the summer holidays. It is completely free and suitable for children aged 11 and under. For more information about the Summer Programme call 01702 213134 or visit www.trustlinks/events.
