We are thrilled to announce that we have purchased six new electric bikes and are encouraging our staff and volunteers to ride between our gardens in South East Essex in a movement towards creating a healthier and greener workplace.
At Trust Links we have therapeutic gardens in Shoeburyness, Westcliff, Rochford and Thundersley and we recently teamed up with ForwardMotion to provide free training to our staff, volunteers, and members of the public. At Trust Links we supports over 1,000 people a year and recognise the benefits of creating healthy lifestyle choices and we want to enable our team to get fit, and enjoy a healthier commute between our projects.
Giorgia, 26, attended one of our recent
cycle training sessions with a qualified instructor and said "I haven’t ridden a
bike since I was a child really so initially I was very nervous about getting
back on a bike – and pretty scared that I’d look silly as a grown woman having
After an introductory ride down
Prittlebrook Greenway, the trainees split into two groups – one for beginners
and one for people with a little more experience, Georgia added "My instructor,
Lisa, put me immediately at ease. She took things really slow to get rid of my
nerves one step at a time – and it worked!”
Matt King, Chief Executive at Trust Links said "It is a pleasure to be working with ForwardMotion on this exciting venture and we are impressed with how professional their instructors are, immediately putting new and potentially nervous cyclists at ease. We have two more training sessions this Friday and welcome anyone wanting to dust off their bike to come and get involved. It’s a fun reminder of how to stay safe on a bike and a great way to care for your own wellbeing and the environment too.”
Giorgia added "I highly recommend the cycle training, they pushed me to believe that I was actually a much better cyclist that I thought before. I’m definitely going to buy a bike now!”
Two final cycle training sessions will be running from Growing Together Westcliff at 10am and 12.30pm on Friday the 25th October and we are opening all our community gardens for our FREE Garden Ride event on Friday 1st November where anyone can ride or walk to our gardens for free refreshments.
