Seed Potato Day preparation is underway!

potday

Preparation for our annual Seed Potato Day is underway! Taking place on Saturday 23rd February at Growing Together Westcliff, we are inviting local residents to come along to our community garden on Fairfax Drive, Westcliff, where they can choose from over 40 varieties of seed potatoes and then go and enjoy growing their own delicious spuds from home, or their own allotment.

Each year Trust Links run this event in partnership with South East Essex Organic Gardeners, and Carole Shorney from the voluntary group said "this is an ideal opportunity to just buy one or two varieties to grow a selection of potatoes in your own garden as they are all available individually or you can buy a large range for your allotment or school garden. Plus there is lots of advice from experienced gardeners on the day so anyone looking to grow potatoes for the first time can come along and get all the help they need to get started.”

Trust Links Chief Executive, Matt King, added "Our Seed Potato Day is suitable for everyone as we will also have freshly cooked Indian food for guests, as well as live music, children’s activities and hot drinks to keep everyone warm. Growing your own food can be fun, and is a great way to engage children with healthy eating at an early age. We hope to see lots of local people enjoying our community garden in Westcliff and hopefully lots of people will go away with all they need to grow their own potatoes this spring.”

Seed Potato Day takes place between 10am and 2pm on Saturday 23rd February at Growing Together Westcliff, 48 Fairfax Drive, Westcliff-on-Sea. For more information call us on 01702 213134 or visit www.trustlinks.org.
