Cycle Challenge: Salzburg to Vienna: CANCELLED

Trans-Alpine Adventure

4th – 9th April 2020: DUE TO OUR CURRENT CLIMATE WE HAVE HAD TO CANCEL THIS EVENT

Take part in Trust Links’ longest fundraising challenge of 2020 and cycle from Salzburg to Vienna this August. Our final cycle challenge covers around 270 miles across the alpine Tyrolean region of southern Germany and Austria. We’ll follow the beautiful blue Danube for most of the journey, making this a truly unique way to achieve something great and make a huge difference to fundraise for Trust Links.

Day One Arrival in Salzburg

Upon arrival in Salzburg you will be free to explore the historic birthplace of Mozart before check-in at 3pm. The Chapeau Events team will be waiting at registration with details of the first days’ cycling and your bikes will have arrived safely ahead of time. Dining isn’t included, leaving you free to explore Salzburg’s famous food and get a good night’s sleep before the challenge begins in earnest.

Day Two Salzburg to Passau – approx. 115km / 72 miles

After breakfast the challenge kicks off cycling north, we’ll experience the picturesque countryside and see the stunning views for which Austria is famous. We will pass through many traditional Austrian villages before reaching the Obersturmer See, a bathing lake with crystal-clear waters. Passing through the stunning, hilly terrain, we will reach the German / Austrian border and follow the river Inner before reaching our first stop at Passau. Enjoy the spa and soothe your tired limbs before getting some rest.

Day Three Passau to Linz – approx. 103 km / 43 miles

Leaving Passau, we join the Danube river and follow its meander along one of the most popular cycling routes in Germany. The river soon returns to Austria, passing the towns of Kastern and Schlogen. Day three ends in the provincial capital of Linz with its Renaissance-era buildings and Baroque town square.

Day Four Linz to Emmersdorf – approx. 101 km / 63 miles

The terrain on the northern side of the Danube is relatively flat today, as we cycle east and, passing over to the south side, journey through the largest wine-producing region in Austria. The mountain views are at their most impressive and we’ll pass countless monasteries, churches, and castles. Finally we’ll reach the pretty little town of Emmersdorf, before tackling the final stage of cycling on Day Five.

Day Five Emmersdorf to Vienna – approx. 120 km . 70 miles

After breakfast, we’re back on the north bank of the Danube and passing through the wheat and sunflower fields in full bloom for the summer. Continuing past the town of Tulln, we’ll push on as the excitement builds towards Austria’s capital of Vienna. The cycle challenge will end on the historic steps of the Hofburg Palace – and then be free to enjoy a night on the town with some of the world’s greatest art and culture. This really is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to support Trust Links!

Day Six – Departure

After a leisurely breakfast it’s time to head home. Your bikes will be transported back to the UK and you’ll be free to explore Vienna, or make your own arrangements home if you want to continue your trip.
