Looking Back at the Greening Basildon workshops and conference 2025
In May and July 2025, Trust Links delivered two practical workshops and a full‑day conference to help people working in landscaping, gardening, design and construction learn more about nature‑based solutions. The aim was to share skills, build confidence, and show how biodiversity can support healthier places and stronger communities.
Workshops
The two workshops focused on real, hands‑on learning.
Our first workshop was lead by John Little, with assistance from Benny Hawksbee, and took place at Hilldrop Garden. Attendees explored green roofs, brownfield planting and how recycled materials can support wildlife. Entomologist Benny Hawksbee also explained how to create habitats for helpful insects.
The second workshop, held at Growing Together Basildon, gave people the chance to apply ideas on-site, talk about project costs, and learn how nature‑based approaches can increase revenue. Specialist talks covered green roof installation and small‑scale SuDS.

Conference
In July, the Greening Basildon Conference brought together local professionals, partners and national experts. The day focused on biodiversity, climate adaptation, green infrastructure and opportunities to bring more nature into Basildon. The event included talks, films, an exhibition and group discussions to explore future partnerships.
The workshops and conference were funded by The Wates Family Enterprise Trust.

Looking Ahead
The programme strengthened the movement towards greener, more climate‑resilient neighbourhoods in Basildon. Trust Links will continue working with partners and communities to support positive, sustainable change.
